The five-day workshop for women from the villages of Cassipora, Pierrekondre-Kumbasi, Powaka and Redi Doti started on 1 November. This initiative, organised by the Jodensavanne Foundation in collaboration with the village leaders and supported by the Canada Fund, aims to strengthen the role of women in tourism and to help them further develop their communities economically and culturally.
During this workshop, the women will learn essential skills in tourism guiding, catering, hygiene and making crafts. Harrold Sijlbing, the workshop coordinator, says: “We want to give these women the opportunity to share their culture and generate income at the same time. It is not just a training; it is a solid foundation for the future of their villages.”
The workshop not only focuses on tourism, but also on the
preservation and promotion of the heritage of Jodensavanne, a site
that has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since September last year. The training offers these women the opportunity to welcome tourists and share the rich culture of their communities with the world in a sustainable way.
